Derived from ‘Who Came to Stay,’ 1984, ‘The Peacemaker’ is uniquely significant in this collection. Initially commissioned for UTEP’s library, its central focus is an Anglo ranger, guiding and escorting newcomers—those choosing to stay north of the Rio Grande. This significant artwork showcases Lea’s portrayal of history and marks Lee Beach’s journey with Lea’s oeuvre. It was the first piece Lee Beach ever reimagined from Lea’s extensive collection. The creation of ‘The Peacemaker’ was pivotal; presenting it and its vision to the board of directors at the Tom Lea Institute paved the way for a contract that birthed the entire series, making it both the starting point and the cornerstone. This artwork is available in 10 standard editions and 3 exclusive larger editions, offering varying choices for enthusiasts.
